School Supply List

Every year before the school year ends I freak out about what should go on my school supply list for the next year. It's always a big fear of mine that I'm asking for things the students won't need or use during the year. I really hate the thought of wasting the parents money but I hate the thought of the students not having things they *may* need during the year. This year I cut my list down and only but the things I believed were necessary. Check it out, download and check it to make it yours. Make suggestions of things that should be added or taken away! Help a sista out, I depend on your input!!!!

We allow pencil sharpeners only with tops and we add a plain white tee shirt in our requests as well. We usually make tie dye shirts or school shirts for field trips. Just a thought!

Maybe some markers? The district makes my supply list...what a waste! There are tons of things I need and many I don't and I don't get to have a say anymore. Hope you get everything you need.

@ Angie I always forget markers! Sorry you don't get to make your own list.

@Jess- I can't STAND firsties with pencil sharpeners!!! The thought of shavings all over the floor will drive me nuts. How do you keep that from happening?

Lucky! Our district is going through a law-suit right now because we're not allowed to ask for school supplies! Its craziness!

What?!?! You can't ask for school supplies! That's crazy! Whose supposed to buy the things the students needs? I hope they don't think the teacher is SUPPOSED to buy those things. Geesh, I can't believe that!

We're also not allowed to ask for supplies from families!!! But we kind of get around it by having our PTA representative sign the donation list instead of it being from the teacher! We can't really ask for much though!!!!! It makes for a tight school budget!

The school district I student taught in bought supplies for students.... which meant the teachers had to fill in a lot with their own resources. (Or try to use PTO money). It seemed like a budget waste bc this is an area where most parents could easily afford supplies. Thanks for this list- it's helping me put together mine :-). A pencil idea...to avoid sharpeners/shavings are to take all the pencils and have community buckets- one for sharp/one for dull.

I make sure the students have the tops on their sharpeners. If they drop their pencil shavings it is their responsibility to clean it up. Usually after one time of having to clean up pencil shavings they never drop their pencil sharpeners again. I like it because they don't have to get up and it doesn't make noise.

What about folders or notebooks?

I never ask for folders or notebooks at the begining of the year because I go CRAZY at those penny sales and I buy enough for my class to start the year off. I let my parents know that after I provide the first folder it is their responsibilty to replace it if it is lost or damaged.

Our team meets and decide what we need. At the bottom we always add a wish list (ribbon, googly eyes, disinfecting wipes, glue dots, pompoms). Parents are always willing to donate extra items, if only they knew what you needed.
